Legionella:
Employer’s or those responsible for
public buildings are required by law to assess and control the risk of
exposure of employees and the general public to Legionella on your
premises. This must include the following:
- Identification of all domestic &
process water systems.
- An assessment of the sources of risk
within each identified system and the inherent and actual risk
associated with these.
- The preparation of a written Legionella
control scheme for preventing or controlling the risk.
- The implementation & management of
the Legionella Control Scheme.
- The keeping of records in a site
specific logbook & auditing on a regular basis.
- It is recommended that ACOP L8 –
Legionnaires Disease: The control of Legionella bacteria in water
systems is referred to for technical detail on how to manage &
control the risk in your system and to satisfy the requirements of the
law.
Water Potability
To maintain potable (drinking) water
supplies all potential drinking water supplies and outlets must be
identified and managed to maintain drinking water quality.
This may include potable water testing for
microbiological and chemical quality, cleaning & disinfection of
cold water storage tanks and down services that supply drinking water
and disinfection of direct mains fed supply services.
Potable water supplies can be further
treated by the installation of water coolers, filters and chemical
disinfection systems.
